Apple cut Jobs in their Books and Apple News Services
In 2020, the House Judiciary Committee found that Amazon controlled more than 50 percent of the overall (online and offline) print book market and more than 80 percent of the e-book market. Apple opened their books business in 2010 in the hopes of capturing a good segment of the market. That, of course, never materialized.
It was reported late yesterday that Apple Inc. cut about 100 jobs in its digital services group, with the biggest cuts were made to the team responsible for the Apple Books app and Apple Bookstore. There were also layoffs in Apple News.
Apple Books has become less of a priority for the company, which doesn’t see it as a major part of its services lineup. The Books app is still expected to get new features over time, according to the people. For more, read the full Bloomberg report.
