Last week a Samsung patent application was filed showing their continuing work on a possible future Galaxy smartphone that provides users with a mini OLED display on the backside.

Samsung's patent FIGS. 2B and 2C presented below are examples of a possible future Galaxy smartphone that provides users with a backside display. In patent FIG. 2C specfically, Samsung presents a fingerprint sensor #276, not present in FIG. 2B.

Although Samsung mentions a "hologram" and/or "Projector" associated with this phone, they provide no explanation as to its possible purpose.

It appears that Samsung hasn't been able to get this patent granted by the U.S. Patent Office and so they've canceled the patent's original 20 patent claims and replaced them with 20 new claims that shifts some of the emphasis of the invention to the phone's NFC antenna which is mentioned 15 times. In one segment of new claim #1, Samsung notes that "a near field communication (NFC) antenna is at least partially disposed between the first display and a second portion of the rear surface when viewed in the first direction."

For full details of this invention, review Samsung's U.S. patent application 20240219965.
