China's BOE Display is set to be the Majority Supplier for the iPhone SE4

A new supply chain report this morning claims that BOE Displays will be a first tier supplier for the upcoming SE4 with LG being second tier. BOE is expected to produce and supply new OLEDs for the iPhone SE4. LG is expected to supply mainly OLED inventory for legacy iPhone models. Apple is releasing the iPhone SE series targeting emerging markets including India. Apple is expecting to sell around 20 million units.

Apple plans to lower the specification while reusing the iPhone 13 OLED in the SE4. Lowering the specification will make it easier for panel manufacturers to produce qualiy products, and Apple is able to lower the panel prices.

BOE Display is expected to over 60-70% of the iPhone SE4 OLED production. BOE only accounts for 20% of Apple's displays because they've been unable to produce displays with the Dynamic Island. That's an odd admission considering the iPhone SE4 is likely to provide a display with a dynamic island, unless the report is hinting otherwise.

Another Chinese display maker Tianma is also attempting to win orders for the iPhone SE4.

Longer term, BOE Display aims to vie for higher end display business from Apple. On July 19, The Elec reported that Wonik IPS received orders for BOE 8th Gen OLED line 'PI Curing Equipment,' as pictured below.

The new equipment is designed to support both hybrid OLED and Flexible OLED displays. Hybrid OLEDs could be used for producing devices such as MacBooks and iPad. For more on this new equipment, view the full report by The Elec.
