A new Samsung patent covers the technical aspects behind their future Tablet with a Telescope Shell & Expandable Display
In May, Patently Apple posted a report titled "Samsung and Lenovo Preparing to bring new Tablet form factors to market with Slidable-Expandable Displays." Earlier this month, Patently Apple posted a report titled "Samsung is working on a next-gen Galaxy Tab that offers an Expandable Display that could challenge Apple's iPad.' Last week, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) posted a new technical Samsung Patent relating to a tablet with an expandable display.
Samsung's patent covers a display device that includes a shell capable of expanding and shrinking in size along a plane direction.
The display device may include a flexible screen arranged on the shell, the size of the display screen exposed to the outside of the flexible screen expands and contract as the size of the shell expands and shrinks.
The display device may include a guiding unit, configured for receiving part of the flexible screen inside the shell with the shell shrinking, or releasing the flexible screen inside the shell with the shell expanding.
The display device may include a driving unit, configured for driving the shell and the flexible screen to expand or shrink synchronously in the same plane.
Samsung's patent FIG. 2 below is a schematic view showing the display device in a shrunk state according to the present invention; FIG. 4 is a schematic view showing the display device in an expanded state; FIG. 5B is a top view and a side view showing the display device in an expanded state.
Samsung's patent FIG. 6 above is a schematic view showing the working principle of the display device. The display device of the embodiment comprises a telescopic shell, a flexible screen arranged on the shell, a driving unit, and a guiding unit.
