Samsung to supply Apple's high-end iPhones & Google's Pixel 9 with OLED displays using new M14 organic materials for best brightness+
Back in April 2023, Patently Apple posted a report titled "Samsung is Developing 'OLED Material Set M14' for iPhone 16." Today, The Elec reports that Samsung Display has applied their latest materials known as 'M14' to displays for iPhone 16 Pro models.
Yet one of the twists to this report is that Samsung Display will supply OLED panels with a set of M14 organic materials to Apple's iPhone 16 Pro models (Pro and Pro Max), along with the Google Pixel 9 series which will be released in the second half of the year.
Google will release the Pixel 9 series in three variants in the second half of the year: Regular, Pro, and Pro XL. On August 13 (local time), the company will hold a 'Made by Google' event to unveil new smartphone products.
Samsung Display makes the highest-performing OLED panels with the latest materials for flagship smartphones. The company refers to these sets of materials as the 'M' series. The higher the number, the more high-performance materials were used. The M14 is the first of its kind materials and is considered to have achieved the best performance in terms of brightness and longevity.
It is understood that domestic companies such as Deoksan Neolux, Samsung SDI, and LG Chem were named in M14. Deoksan Neolux supplies red and green prime, as well as auxiliary material hole transport layer (HTL). Samsung SDI is the green host, and LG Chem is the supplier of the hole defense layer (a-ETL) and the electron transport layer (ETL).
You have to wonder if Apple is pleased with Samsung's decision to supply the Google Pixel 9 with this same OLED advantage as the iPhone 16 pro models for Q4-24.
