Rumor Claims that OLED Displays from Samsung are coming to the iPad Mini and iPad Air in 2026
A new rumor claims that Samsung Display is accelerating the expansion of its OLED business for IT. Following the start of mass production of OLED panels for the iPad Pro this year, it was discovered that the company has recently begun developing panels for the iPad mini. In fact, the ZDNet Korean report claims that Samsung Display began developing samples for Apple's new OLED tablet, 'iPad Mini', last month.
Apple has used LCD panels in the existing iPad series, but began applying OLED to products released this year. Specifically, of the four models (Pro, Air, Regular, and Mini), OLED was applied only to the Pro (11 inches, 12.9 inches). The panel has beeen mass-produced through Samsung Display and LG since the quarter of the year.
Furthermore, Apple plans to apply OLED to the iPad Mini and Air models, which are expected to be released in 2026. Accordingly, Samsung Display began developing 8-inch panel samples for the iPad mini last month. A small number of domestic partners conducing advanced development with Samsung Display have also recently begun responding in this regard.
Additionally, Samsung Display is known to have planned to mass produce the panel at the Cheonan A2 line. The A2 line mainly produces 5.5 generation rigid OLED, and the proportion of tablet panel production in existing smartphones is increasing.
An industry insider said, "I understand that Samsung Display began developing samples for the OLED iPad Mini last month at Apple's request. After developing initial samples in the first half of this year, we will be able to enter the development stage for mass production within the year."
