While Sony is the supplier of micro-OLED displays for the first version of Vision Pro, it appears that LG is wanting in on the business. Today, Vision Pro offers  3,386 PPI. This week LG showcased OLEDoS (OLED on Silicon) with a pixel density of 4000 PPI (Pixels Per Inch) at 'Display Week 2024' of the Society for Information Displays (SID) held in the United States from the 14th to the 16th (local time). OLEDOS refers to a technology that deposits organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) on silicon wafers. LG Display is researching and developing WOLED+CF OLEDOS, which produces color when white light from white (W)-OLED passes through red (R), green (G), and blue (B) color filters (CF).

LG Display announced, “We are unveiling for the first time the Oledos new technology for virtual reality (VR), which dramatically increases screen brightness and resolution compared to before.” LG Display's 1.3-inch WOLED+CF Oledos displayed this time has △luminance (brightness) of 10,000 nits (1 nit is the brightness of a candle) △4K resolution pixel density 4000PPI △Digital Cinema Institute (DCI) standard color gamut DCI-P3 It was explained that it supports 97% or higher satisfaction.

LG Display announced that it applied Micro Lens Array (MLA) technology to its newly developed high-performance OLED device to increase light extraction efficiency and achieve 10,000 nits, which is about 40% higher luminance than before. MLA is a technology that increases brightness by emitting light lost due to internal reflection of the panel to the outside of the screen through a micrometer (μm) unit lens pattern. VR device displays are used with external light blocked. To increase user immersion, higher brightness and resolution are required than regular displays.

LG Display also unveiled Oledos for smartwatches for the first time in the industry. The 1.3-inch size and 4K resolution display content clearly even on the wrist. It is equipped with the Light Field Display (LFD) function, a glasses-free 3D technology, to create a hologram-like effect.
