Apple Quietly Acquired Datakalab, a French AI company, back in December 2023
As we await the WWDC24 keynote in June to learn about Apple's new push into AI for iPhones, iPads and Macs, we're learning today from a French business site (Challenger) that Apple discreetly purchased the start-up Datakalab, a company specializing in algorithm compression and image analysis using artificial intelligence, on December 17, 2023.
While the amount of the transaction is unknown, the operation has been notified to the European Commission. It represents a significant investment for Apple, which took a 100% stake in this company founded seven years ago by brothers Xavier and Lucas Fischer.
