While Apple retained their Tablet Leadership in Mainland China in 2023, Huawei rose 65% and is off to a great start in 2024
A new analytical report this morning states that Mainland China's tablet market is expected to grow by 4% in both 2024 and 2025, benefiting from increasing penetration as digitalization deepens.
According to Canalys, China’s tablet market saw a decline of 3% in Q4 2023 to reach 8.4 million units, with full-year 2023 shipments totaling 28.3 million in a year with increased competition as new entrants ramped up their focus on the category.
Despite not having new iPads released in 2023, Apple was still able to retain it's tablet leadership in Mainland China with 32% market share, a decline of 10% for the year. Huawei came in second place with 65% annual growth and 23% market share.
Huawei got off to quick start in Q1 2024 by introducing their new MatePad Pro tablet with a 13.2 inch OLED display with its camera set in landscape mode which Apple is rumored to be adopting later in H1-24.
Unless Apple gets more aggressive with their iPad lineup in 2024, Huawei has a chance of overtaking them this year.
