Samsung provided the press at the 'Mobile World Congress' 2024 Trade Show with a first-peek of their upcoming 'Galaxy Ring'
Patently Apple first revealed Samsung's intention to launch a smart ring related to their heatlh app later this year in a January 7 report. It was briefly noted during Samsung's Galaxy S24 Unpacked event. Today we're learning that Samsung allowed the press attending Spain's mega tradeshow, the 'Mobile World Congress' (MWC 2024) a peak at their upcoming ring as noted in photo below.
Samsung's mobile chief Roh Tae-moon told reporters that the ring will run for 5 to 9 days on a single charge. The Korean report by hankyung noted that The Galaxy Ring, scheduled to be released within the year, comes in three colors, including black, gold, and silver, and nine sizes.
The inner side of the Galaxy Ring, has a couple of sensors attached that could detect the user's bio data. The Galaxy Ring can be comfortably worn even while sleeping, and the inner surface of the ring wraps around the finger to measure detailed health data. Specific details about the sensors will be revealed at a latter Samsung event, likely in August.
Roh explained, "It doesn't have a phone function yet, but you can monitor your health and see your health information, such as sleep and oxygen saturation, on your phone. It has an oxygen sensor, so the information is transmitted to your phone."
Roh added that the reason for developing a ring in addition to the Galaxy Watch is “so you can always wear it for a long time without burden,” and “if you make it into a ring shape and charge it, you can use it for 5 to 9 days without needing to recharge, so you don’t miss out on important health information while always wearing it on your body.” “I think the ring shape is the most suitable for monitoring,” he added.
A secondary report by the Korea Times on the same subject matter stated that Samsung is set to introduce intelligent health functions such as My Vitality Score, which provides personalized health guides to users based on various data such as sleep and heart rate, and Booster Cards, which encourage users to set health-related goals, Samsung plans to provide an optimal customized health experience for users.
"In the near future, select Galaxy wearables will use AI to enhance digital health and unlock a whole new era of expanded, intelligent health experiences. Samsung will keep enriching and expanding Galaxy AI experiences across categories through collaborations with more industry-leading AI partners,” the president added.
Yesterday, Patently Apple posted a report titled "While Apple has many patents on record on a potential smart ring, Bloomberg now thinks Apple is paying attention to this new accessory."
