A new supply chain report posted this morning states that Samsung Display is exclusively producing the first batch of Apple's 11-inch OLED  iPad. LG Display will only participate in producing Apple'  first batch of 13-inch OLED iPads. Once production is in full swing, the mix-up of suppliers and products could change with both companies battling it out for Apple's business.

According to The Elec, the OLED iPad that Apple is releasing for the first time this year consists of two types: 11 inches and 13 inches. Early last month, LG Display began production of the 13-inch iPad OLED, and Samsung Display began production of the 11-inch iPad OLED.

It's believed that there are several reasons why two panel companies are currently producing only one type of iPad OLED each. Industry insiders estimate that this is due to changes in Apple's demand outlook for this year's OLED iPad, as well as the production capacity and production yield of the two panel companies. Since this year is the first year to produce iPad OLEDs, in which many new technologies are applied, it is known that the production yields of the two panel companies are not yet stable.

The current market estimate for Apple OLED iPad shipments this year is 8 million units, which is 2 million units lower than the industry expectation of 10 million units last year.

Although the IT product industry is bad this year, the OLED iPad is expected to be a leader in increasing OLED penetration in the IT product market. Currently, the The industry is hopeful that if Apple applies OLED to the MacBook, starting with the iPad, OLED can become a fixture in the high-end IT product lineup. Source report.
