After entering Apple's Supply Chain in India with iPhone Manufacturing, the Tata Group has revealed they intend to build a Chip Plant
In early December Patently Apple posted a report titled "India's Tata Group plans to expand their relationship with Apple by building a new iPhone Plant & open 100 Apple Product retail stores." The Tata Group is an Indian multinational conglomerate headquartered in Mumbai. Established in 1868, it is India's largest conglomerate, with products and services in over 150 countries, and operations in 100 countries across six continents. The Tata Group now working with Apple is a major win as the company has the power and influence to push Apple products in all corners of the Indian market.
Today it's be reported that the Tata Group is set to reveal plans for the construction of a state-of-the-art semiconductor fabrication plant in Gujarat later this year, said Tata Sons chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran at the Vibrant Gujarat Summit.
The move aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's strategic focus on chip manufacturing as a crucial component of India's economic agenda.
Despite initial challenges in offering incentives to the chipmaking industry, Tata Group is poised to play a pivotal role in bolstering India's semiconductor capabilities.
Chandrasekaran disclosed that Tata Group is on the verge of finalizing and announcing a substantial semiconductor fabrication plant in Dholera, Gujarat.
Negotiations are reaching their conclusion, with plans to commence construction in 2024, marking a significant stride towards bolstering India's semiconductor ecosystem. For more, read the full 'India Today' report
While it's doubtful that the new plant will be able to produce TSMC-type of cutting edge 3 or 2nm processors that Apple could use in their devices in the short term, it may be a future supplier considering that the company is manufacturing iPhones in India and plans to open a second plant that will house up to 50,000 workers over the next few years. If the Indian Government decides to provide Apple with incentives to support the Tata Group's new chip plant, it would be a win-win scenario.
