In an Effort to match Apple Vision Pro's ability to run Productivity apps, Basic MS Office apps are now available for Facebook's VR Headsets
In mid November, Patently Apple posted a report titled "Meta is hoping to have an XR Headset that could Match Apple's Vision Pro's Spatial Computer by 2027." Prior to getting to a point of being able to present multiple high-end webpages on a XR headset like Vision Pro, we're learning today that basic Microsoft Office apps are now available on Meta's Quest VR Headset in a step to compete with Vision Pro debuting early in 2024.
Microsoft has launched the basic Office suite for free on the Meta Quest store. To get started, all you'll need is a Microsoft account and any of the four available Meta Quest headsets. Yes, that includes the original Oculus Quest, the Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, and, of course, the Meta Quest 3. Next, head over to the Meta Quest store and download the Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word apps for free.
To be "Vision Pro-Like", run all three apps side-by-side at the same time on the Meta Quest by pressing and holding each app's icon on the universal home bar at the bottom, followed by dragging it to one of the three available window positions. For more, read the full report by Android Central.
According to The Verge, the apps aren't exactly optimized for virtual reality, so users may have to contend with tiny icons and other elements that don't work as well in the environment. In addition, it's not easy typing on the Quest's onscreen keyboard, so users may have to link Bluetooth accessories if they need to get some serious work done. The Verge tested it out and you could review their take on this new development here.
