Apple's iPhone 16 Display from Samsung will use a next-gen OLED Material M14 that could reduce overall power consumption
It was reported back in August 2022 that Samsung Display's material used on Samsung’s Galaxy and Apple’s iPhones were designated the M-Series. Samsung Display used its M11 material for the standard 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch models in the iPhone 14 series. The two higher-tier models in the iPhone 14 series used Samsung Display’s M12 material set. Samsung used M12 materials for the iPhone 15 series as well.
Today we're learning from The Elec that Samsung is working on a new M-Series material mix. Samsung intends to replace blue fluorescence with a blue phosphorescence that could reduce OLED overall power consumption.
Director Daejeong Yoon of UBI Research, a market research company, predicts that Samsung's next-gen M14 will be applied to the Apple iPhone 16 series, and in the future, odd material set names will be applied to Samsung Electronics and Chinese companies, and even material set names will be applied to Apple iPhone.”
Yoon added that "Following the iPhone 16 next year, M14 will also be applied to the iPhone 17 in 2025, and the application period for the Apple iPhone OLED material set will increase to two years. As the application cycle increases to two years, competition among emitting material companies will also intensify.
