Apple wins a Patent for future iPhones, iPads and MacBooks with Through-Display Wireless Charging
While famed Apple analyst thinks that key updates to Apple Watch may not arrive until 2025-26, he sees one bright spot on the Horizon

Apple Supplier LG Display has announced they now have complete control of key Core OLED materials that improves luminous efficiency+

Starting their joint research over a decade ago with the aim of localizing this material, LG Display and LG Chem have finally developed a material that matches the efficiency and performance of the imported ones. LG Display proposed material design and verified its performance, while LG Chem synthesized and produced the material, maximizing the synergy between the two companies.

BusinessKorea reports that "With the localization of p-dopant, LG Display has not only established an independent and stable supply chain but also secured its own patents, thereby reinforcing its leadership in the global OLED market.

The company revealed that the localization rate for OLED materials has increased from 58% last year to 64% this year. LG Display plans to progressively apply the locally developed p-dopant to both large and small-medium OLED panels." This translates to the OLED panels for iPhone and iPad.

According to LG Display,  "both companies have independently developed the OLED core material 'p-dopant,' which was previously monopolized by foreign firms. Dopants are compounds added to the OLED emission layer to enhance device efficiency, color purity, and lifespan. Among these, p-dopant plays a significant role in improving OLED luminous efficiency, extending device lifespan, and reducing power consumption."

LG should be able to supply Apple OLED displays without any future delays due to the inability to secure p-dopant in a timely manner and could enhance LG Display quality over time. LG Display is Apple's second largest iPhone display supplier.
