A new supply chain report this morning states that the outline of Apple's first OLED iPad, which will become an OLED test bed for IT, has been revealed. The purchase volume of OLED panels for the OLED iPad, which Apple plans to release in two types next year, is expected to be 10 million units.

A new supply chain report by The Elec states that Apple plans to apply OLED to the top (Pro) iPad series lineup next year and release two models, 11-inch and 13-inch. Apple's current forecast for OLED iPad panel purchase volume is 6 million units for 11 inches and 4 million units for 13 inches.

LG Display is expected to produce both 11-inch and 13-inch OLEDs. The 13-inch model is exclusive to LG Display. Expected volume for 11-inch will be approximately 6 million units for LG Display.  Samsung Display is limited to the 11" model and volume will be approximately 4 million. The final quantity is expected to be finalized in November.

The OLED iPad is expected to be a product that will lead to an increase in OLED penetration in the IT product market. In smartphones, the OLED penetration rate exceeds 40%, but in the IT product market such as tablets, laptops, and monitors, the OLED penetration rate is only 2-3%. Apple plans to gradually apply OLED to MacBooks in the future, starting with iPad next year.

Apple is expected to watch OLED iPad shipments and decide on OLED MacBook shipments. Currently, Samsung Display is the only panel company that has decided to invest in 8th generation OLED for IT targeting OLED MacBooks. It is known that LG Display is lagging behind in its investment. If the volume of OLED MacBooks is high enough, Apple will increase the number of panel partners to lower panel prices, but it is currently unclear whether BOE will be able to secure enough MacBook OLED volumes to warrant a trillion-dollar investment and make a profit.
