A new Apple patent filing describes an iPhone-on-your-Face in the form of Future Smartglasses with Cellular Connectivity

After seeing Meta's second generation "camera-centric glasses," which Zuckerberg calls smartglasses introduced yesterday, I know that Apple fans await Apple's true smartglasses to come to market. A multitude of Apple patents have presented us with a wide array of concepts and technologies that Apple may apply to their future smartglasses: 01, 02, 03, 04, 05 and more.

Today, the US Patent & Trademark Office published another smartglasses patent application from Apple that relates to the glasses having a metal frame that surrounds the lenses and may have temples that are coupled to the frame using hinges. More importantly, radio-frequency transceiver circuitry such as cellular telephone transceiver circuitry may be coupled to one or more antennas in Apple's smartglasses.

The antennas may have antenna resonating elements formed by placing dielectric-filled gaps in the metal frame to divide the frame into segments. Antenna resonating elements formed from segments of the metal frame may be coupled to the radio-frequency transceiver circuitry using transmission lines.

Apple's patent FIGS. 6, 7, 8, and 9 are front views of am illustrative pair of smartglasses with antennas in various face locations on the frame; FIG. 10 is a diagram of a pair of smartglasses with an elongated side portion (the temples or arms) that includes an antenna.

While today's patent is seemingly simple, it delivers a meaningful punch that confirms that Apple is working on an additional form factor for the iPhone: Smartglasses. To review its full details, review patent application 20230305302.
