While Xiaomi's tablet shipments grew 53% in Q2, Apple beat Xiaomi in shipments by more than 3 times. It'll be interesting to watch for Xiaomi's shipments next quarter, as they just released their new Xiaomi Pad 6 Max tablet that delivers a generous 14" display that may sell very well in China.
With Macs and iPads selling well in China in Q2 2023, it shouldn't come as a surprise that China was the leading country for Apple iPhones in Q2, beating out the U.S., according to Tech Insights, a global market research firm that The Elec used for this report. The research report claims that China accounted for 24% of total iPhone shipments while the U.S. accounted for 21%.
Unfortunately we don't have a stats report on this from IDC, Canalys or TrendForce to confirm these statistics from Tech Insights.
The Elec added that "Tech Insights analyzed these results as "the result of reflecting China's economic power, the rapidly growing middle class, and Chinese consumers' preference for premium phones."
The increase in iPhone sales in China also contributed to the sluggish sales in the US, which was the number one iPhone shipment. It is observed that the sales of iPhone in the second quarter in the US are partly due to the psychology of consumers delaying the purchase of a new phone ahead of the launch of a new product in the second half of this year." Apple sent out invites to the iPhone event today that will take place on Tuesday September 12. For more on this part of the report, review the full report by The Elec.
