While Apple fell Globally in Smartphone Shipments in Q2 2023, they gained Market Share in China
A new analytical report this morning states that the worldwide smartphone market fell by 10% to 258.2 million units in Q2 2023, showing a slowdown in decline. Samsung secured the top spot by shipping 53.0 million units and a 21% market share while Apple retained their second spot by shipping 43.0 million units and a 17% market share as noted in the chart below.
“The decline in the global smartphone market has once again narrowed, helped by an industry-wide inventory reduction and signs of demand recovery in certain regional markets,” commented Amber Liu, Analyst at Canalys.
“We anticipate a moderate decline in the global smartphone market in 2023,” added Liu. “In the first half of the year, the smartphone supply chain has seen order and margin warming up, helped by increased component prices and reduced channel inventory levels. Q2 2023 China Smartphone Market
IDC reported this morning that the smartphone market in China fell 2.1%. The sluggish consumer demand recovery offset the bigger discount efforts from smartphone vendors and e-commerce operators, leading to a more-than-5% drop in sales during the “618” online shopping festival. Yet as can be seen in the IDC chart below, Apple was able to deliver 6.1% growth while vivo, Honor and Xiaomi declined. Apple and Huawei were the only top vendors to show positive year-over-year growth.
According to IDC, Huawei's amazing growth came in-part to the popularity of their new foldable Mate X3 model smartphone.
