Two Months after Apple opened their Gangnam Store, Samsung prepares to open a Six Floor in the Posh Gangnam District
On March 31 Patently Apple posted a report titled "A Massive Enthusiastic Crowd Jammed the new Apple Gangnam Store in the Heart of Samsung's Home Turf." Our cover graphic is a giant photo of opening day and the crowds were wildly enthusiastic. The heads of Samsung executives must have popped seeing the jubilation at the Apple store opening.
It was announced today that Samsung too will be opening a store in Seoul's Gangnam district in late June. It's going to be a massive store with a basement and five above-ground floors. The facility will display Samsung Electronics' mobile devices, TVs and household appliances and introduce a lifestyle featuring connection between products. It's been in the works for the last five years.
The Korea Economic Daily further reported that industry sources say the company is seeking to counter Apple's expansion strategy S. Korea which is now aggressively targeting the domestic market, having opened three flagship stores in Seoul between last year and this year and recently launching their simple to use payment app Apple Pay.
It'll be interesting to see if Samsung will attempt to create a long line of fans for their store's opening to mimic the enthusiastic crowd that the new Apple Gangnam Store generated in late March.
