On April 18, Patently Apple posted a report titled  Worldwide Smartphone Shipments for Q1 2023 have Apple and Samsung in a statistical tie in Market Share, a leap for Apple from a year ago." What the April report from Canalys didn't provide was a breakdown of the iPhone or Galaxy smartphones that provided each company with their success for the quarter.

Yesterday Canalys provided a single chart presenting the top 15 smartphone models for Q1 2023 and it's no surprise that Apple's iPhone took 7 of the 15 and more importantly took the top 4 places starting with three iPhone 14 models followed by the iPhone 13. The iPhone 14 Plus took 6th place, the iPhone 12 took 8th place and the iPhone SE (3rd gen) took 11th place. Even Apple's iPhone 13 did better than Samsung's Flagship phone, the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

The Canalys chart also shows that the top 4 iPhone models sold in mass quantities compared to the Galaxy S23 models. Apple focuses on fewer iPhone models and derives maximum profit.

On the flipside, Samsung is possessed at being #1 in volume shipments and does this by selling smartphones at almost every price point in the market, making little profit in the process.
