Today the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office officially published a series of 52 newly granted patents for Apple Inc. In this particular report we briefly cover Apple's temperature sensor invention that was introduced with Apple Watch Series 8 and Apple Watch Ultra that covers tracks reproductive health. Apple was also granted a design patent for the new Apple Watch SE. And as always, we wrap up this week's granted patent report with our traditional listing of the remaining granted patents that were issued to Apple this week.

Miniature External Temperature Sensing Device

Before there was a rumor about a temperature sensor coming to Apple Watch in January 2022, there was a patent about this development that we covered in a report posted late December 2021. Several other patents surfaced thereafter describing the use of temperature sensors expanding to future AirPods. A sports related temperature system patent for Apple Watch was covered in October 2022.

Today the US Patent & Trademark Office granted Apple a patent that relates to a temperature sensing device in wearable devices such as an Apple Watch, AirPods, future smartglasses and VR Headset that is configured to estimate subsurface tissue temperatures, heart rate, a barometric pressure, air temperature, moisture level, and so on.

More specifically, this temperature sensor patent likely covers the Apple Watch series 8 feature using a temperature sensor for Woman's Cycle Tracking.  Apple's patent states that "Temperature measurements from the miniature dual heat flux temperature sensor can be displayed to the user, used by the electronic watch to perform various functions such as a health tracking, and/or combined with other sensor data. In some cases, when incorporated into an electronic device such as a wearable electronic device a miniature dual heat flux temperature sensor can estimate and track deep tissue temperatures of a user over a period of time such as hours, days, months, years, and so on.
