Apple files for new Figurative Trademarks for their 'Depth App' & Apple TV in context with selling Merchandise like Soccer Jerseys and more

Apple legal has been busy filing new trademarks for Apple of late. In this report we cover trademark filings for the "Freeform" icon, "CallKit," "Force Touch" in context with the MacBook's trackpad specifically, the Ultra Watch app for water "Depth" and lastly the figurative trademark for Apple TV in a new context: their logo on soccer jerseys (as highlighted in our cover graphic), Soccer bibs, sports jackets, warm up patents and much more. Whether this is for advertising purposes or for merchandise sales at sport events is unknown at this time.

Freeform Icon

While Apple filed for the "Freeform" text trademark in Hong Kong & the U.S. back in December 2022, they filed for icon and logo for Freeform in Hong Kong in two separate filings.

The first icon trademark was filed under application #306198364 and specifically under International Class 009 which covers: "Computer software; downloadable computer software for facilitating realtime collaboration, for jointly creating, sharing, viewing, displaying, editing, annotating, storing, and distributing photos, images, graphics, documents, presentations, data, videos, and multimedia content, and for communicating via text and video regarding the collaboration process and jointly-created content; downloadable computer software for creating, sharing, viewing, displaying, editing, annotating, storing, and distributing photos, images, graphics, documents, presentations, data, videos, and multimedia content; downloadable computer programs for word processing."

Apple filed for this trademark in the U.S. under application # 97844477 and specifically under International Class 009 with the same verbiage as was filed for in Hong Kong.

2 Freeform icon TM Filings in Hong Kong

The second icon trademark was filed under application #306198535 and specifically filed under International Class 042 which covers: "Providing non-downloadable software; providing on-line non-downloadable software for facilitating realtime collaboration, for jointly creating, sharing, viewing, displaying, editing, annotating, storing, and distributing photos, images, graphics, documents, presentations, data, videos, and multimedia content, and for communicating via text and video regarding the collaboration process and jointly-created content; providing on-line non-downloadable software for creating, sharing, viewing, displaying, editing, annotating, storing, and distributing photos, images, graphics, documents, presentations, data, videos, and multimedia content; providing on-line non-downloadable software for word processing; cloud computing services; cloud computing featuring software for use facilitating realtime collaboration, for jointly creating, sharing, viewing, displaying, editing, annotating, storing, and distributing photos, images, graphics, documents, presentations, data, videos, and multimedia content, and for communicating via text and video regarding the collaboration process and jointly-created content.

CallKit

Apple also filed for the "CallKit" Trademark under Hong Kong application 306179176 and specifically under International Classification 9 which in this case covers " Computer software; application development software."

Apple also filed for this trademark in the U.S. under application number 97814241 under the same International Class 009 with slightly different verbiage: " application development software; computer software for use as an application programming interface (API) for building software applications." Apple's application also was accompanied with a "Specimen" as presented below.

The U.S. Patent Office defines a specimen as being an example of how a company is actually using their trademark in the marketplace with the goods or services in their application. It's what consumers see when they are considering whether to purchase goods or subscribe to services that Apple provides in connection with their trademark.

Force Touch

Another trademark filing from Apple covers "Force Touch" in context with Apple's MacBook Trackpad. Apple filed for this trademark with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) under application #97859615 and specifically under International Class 009 covering: "Computer hardware; computer peripherals; touchpads; trackpads; computer mouse in the nature of a trackpad; computer cursor control devices, namely, trackpads; computer mouse in the nature of a trackpad sold as a component feature of computers; computer cursor control devices, namely, trackpads sold as a component feature of computers."

Apple Watch Ultra: Depth App

Apple has filed for a "Figurative Trademark" relating to the Apple Watch Ultra app known as the 'Depth app." During recreational underwater activities such as snorkeling, underwater pool swims, and shallow free-diving, the Depth app can show the time, depth, water temperature, and the session's maximum depth while you've been underwater.

Apple filed their figurative trademark under application 97799910 specifically under International Class 009 covering: "Downloadable computer software for measuring and displaying information about temperature, time, and water depth."
