Two Chinese Suppliers are preparing to enter and expand their Chip Packaging Services for Apple
It's being reported today that Apple suppliers Luxshare and Goertek are preparing to enter and expand their chip packaging services for Apple.
For Luxshare it's a matter of expanding these services as Luxshare is already providing chip "system-in-package" (SiP) services for Apple’s AirPods wireless headphones. That is to say, a variety of functional chips, including functional chips such as processors and memory, are integrated into a package to achieve a basically complete function.
At the same time, Goertek is also focusing on the chip assembly business, but due to technical difficulties, has won far fewer orders in this area than Luxshare Precision. Yet Goertek has spun off a chip-related department and plans to go public separately to raise funds to assist in their chip expansion plans.
Today, Luxshare and Goertek play an increasingly important role in Apple’s huge supply chain. For Apple, the addition of two chip assemblers in the supply chain gives Apple greater bargaining power.
Luxshare is particularly eager to improve its chip skills as it seeks to foray into new areas, including electric vehicles. In an effort to shorten the learning curve for SiP production, Luxshare has been hiring engineers with chip packaging technology expertise. For more on this, read the full Nikkei Asia report.
