The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office officially published a series of 57 newly granted patents for Apple Inc. today. In this particular report we briefly cover patents relating to Touch ID and other biometrics for Apple Watch; miniature gas sensors for iPhone that could measure gas levels in different rooms of your Home; advanced eye and head tracking for games and beyond; and a design patent relating to retail store fixtures. And as always, we wrap up this week's granted patent report with our traditional listing of the remaining granted patents that were issued to Apple today.

 

Apple Watch with Touch ID

 

Earlier this morning, Patently Apple posted an IP report titled "Apple has Won a Patent for Under-Display Touch ID for iPhone based on Off-Axis Angular Light." That patent also noted that Touch ID could apply to Apple Watch. Now in this second patent report we cover just that, Touch ID for Apple Watch and more.

 

Apple's patent FIG. 2 below is an illustrative block diagram of an overview of a wearable electronic device. It's here where Apple also surprises us by noting that "The display may also provide an input surface for one or more input devices, such as, for example, a touch sensing device and/or a fingerprint sensor."

Today the U.S. Patent Office published Apple's granted patent that relates to integrating a series of enhanced miniature gas sensors in future iPhones that will be able to detect gas readings in various rooms in your home. Apple was also granted a patent titled "Eye and Head Tracking' today. Apple's patent covers an eye and head tracking system that could be used in context with playing games, but more importantly, the technology is used for advancing certain aspects of facial analysis relating to Face ID for iDevices, Macs and more.
