A Patent Licensing Agreement has been reached between Apple and Canada's WiLAN
WiLAN Inc published a press release this morning stating that "Quarterhill Inc., a subsidiary Wi–LAN Inc. ('WiLAN') and WiLAN's subsidiary Polaris Innovations Limited ('Polaris'), today announced a new patent license agreement (the 'Agreement') with Apple Inc. ('Apple')." This comes just weeks after Apple won a dispute over wireless technology with the society.
More specifically, in February, Apple convinced a US appeals court to reject an $85 million jury award to Canadian patent licensing firm WiLAN following a new lawsuit in 2020. Apple had asked the Federal Circuit to vacate the award on several grounds, including issues with the WiLAN expert testimony.
The latest agreement includes the settlement and rejection of all disputes between WiLAN, its subsidiary Polaris and Apple in the United States, Canada and Germany.
