Way back in March 2014 Patently Apple's Patently Mobile site covered one of Google's first patents relating to a future Google Watch. Patently Apple covered a couple of Google patents on a future watch in 2019 and 2020 illustrating its watch working in sync with a Chromebook via their Soli motion technology, as noted in their patent FIG. 4 illustrated below.

Yesterday afternoon a report by Business Insider claimed that a Google branded  smartwatch could enter the market sometime in 2022. Considering that they acquired Fitbit, it shouldn't come as any surprise.

According to a Verge's source, Google's branded watch is expected to cost more than a Fitbit and compete more directly with the Apple Watch. The watch will have basic fitness tracking features, including step counting and a heart rate monitor, with Google also reportedly working on debuting a Fitbit integration into Wear OS. You could read more of the Verge's report here.

Credit goes out to Front Page Tech and Jon Prosser for getting the scoop on the Pixel Watch first, though his timing in hindsight was completely off. There's one image below from Prosser's video report that you could watch in full here.
