We first heard the rumor in 2016 that Apple was considering the restoration of the historic Tower Theater in L.A. for use as an Apple Store. Then in 2018, a report from Germany provided us with a teaser image of the restoration vision for the new store as presented below.

Apple's marketing team posted a graphic today that fully states: "Once a groundbreaking cinema, Apple Tower Theatre represents the creativity and innovation that both Los Angeles and Apple are known for. The first Apple Store in downtown LA, this will be the place where you can discover new products, find inspiration, and let your creativity shine."

The store opens on June 24, 2021. Of course due to COVID-19, restrictions on opening day will apply with limited store occupancy and physical distancing. Face masks will be mandatory and Apple will provide them if required.
