Apple Backtracks and Sends their recent Ad Engineer Hire Mr. Martinez Packing after receiving an angry Employee Petition

1 x Cover - Bye-Bye Mr. Martinez

Our last report last night was titled "In a rare move, Apple Employees circulate a Petition demanding an investigation into the company's 'misogynistic' new hire." Within hours Apple executives reacted quickly to the petition and Mr. Martinez was history.

Bloomberg reports that "Apple Inc. said Antonio Garcia Martinez, a former Facebook Inc. product manager who recently joined the iPhone maker, is no longer at Apple after his hiring caused an internal backlash because of past comments that drew fire for being racist or sexist.

Garcia Martinez, who was hired two months ago to work in product engineering on Appleā€™s advertising platform team, has left according to an Apple statement.

An Apple Spokesman told Bloomberg: "At Apple, we have always strived to create an inclusive, welcoming workplace where everyone is respected and accepted. Behavior that demeans or discriminates against people for who they are has no place here."

So why was Mr. Martinez hired to begin with? While Apple's knee-jerk reaction makes their executive team look weak, there seems to be a missing piece to this episode. Was Martinez given the opportunity to apologize for his past comments or was Apple simply looking for an excuse to fire Martinez so as to legally brake his contract? Whether we'll hear from Mr. Martinez on this in the future is unknown at this time.
