On December 1, IDC China announced a quarterly tracking report on China's wearable device market for the third quarter of 2020. The report shows that China’s wearable device market shipped 32.93 million units in the quarter, a year-on-year increase of 15.3%.

Shipments of basic wearable devices (wearable devices that do not support third-party applications) were 26.16 million units, a year-on-year increase of 16.6%.

Smart wearable devices shipped to 6.77 million units, a year-on-year increase of 10.6%.

Huawei ranked first with 9.414 million units shipments, with a market share of 28.6%, and shipments increased by 60.5% year-on-year.

It is reported that Huawei launched TalkBand 6 this quarter, pushing its bracelet product line to a new high. Huawei's GT series maintained its strong performance.

For Q3 Honor Watch, then owned by Huawei, also achieved significant growth with the promotion of new products and the follow-up of offline channels.

It should be noted that Huawei sold their lower-end brand Honor that will take sales away for Huawei on smartphones and smartwatches going forward.

Xiaomi ranked second, with 7.241 million units shipped in the quarter and a market share of 22%, a year-on-year decline of 7.7%. As a new product, Xiaomi Mi Band 5 not only helps Xiaomi to rank first in the domestic bracelet market, but also continues to make efforts in overseas markets.

Apple ranked third with 5.868 million units shipped, with a market share of 17.8%, a 66.1% year-on-year increase.

2 Apple Watch SE

In this quarter, Apple released the Apple Watch 6 and SE series to further drive its watch segment to record shipments. While the AirPods series is gradually migrating to high-end models, it is still showing steady growth.

Although Apple landed in third spot for Q3-20 in China, IDC mixes basic wearable devices that don't support third-party applications with smart wearable devices which puts Apple at a clear disadvantage because they don't participate in the "basic wearable" market.

Apple also doesn't participate in cheap wearables like Xiaomi does with prices well under $100. On the Fitness Band front, Apple has shown to have their eye on this market which would significantly boost their "wearables" status in China and globally.

As an audio manufacturer, Sony has leapt to the fifth place in the market with the development of its gradually intelligent headset product line. , The shipment volume is 631,000 units, and the market share is 1.9%.
