Demand for the iPhone 12 Pro has been so strong, especially in the U.S., that delivery lead time from manufacturers has had to be extended. In addition, Apple is set to increase orders for VCSEL chips supporting the iPhone 12 Pro's ToF-based LiDAR scanner for immersive augmented reality (AR), according to sources at Taiwan-based supply chain makers.

Apple notes in their marketing material that the LiDAR Scanner on iPhone 12 Pro measures how long it takes light to reflect back from objects, so it can create a depth map of any space you’re in within nanoseconds. Because it’s ultrafast and accurate, AR apps can now transform a room into a realistic rainforest or show you exactly how a new sneaker will fit. For on Apple's LiDAR Scanner click here.
