Sony's Reschedules PS5 Event for Thursday while HBO hires 'Chernobyl' Series Director for the new 'The Last of Us' Mini-Series

1 PS5 EVENT

Sony's rescheduled their PS5 event dubbed "The Future of Gaming" to this Thursday at 11 a.m. PST (North America) and  9 p.m. BST (British Standard Time). The event's original event was cancelled out of respect for the George Floyd global protests.

While it'll be interesting to see what games will be coming to their new gaming console later this year, you'll have to imagine what they might look like on your 4K TV at home because all of the previews will be limited to 1080p at 30 frames per second.

While most have seen Microsoft's next-gen gaming console, the Xbox Series X as presented below, Sony has kept the look of their console under wraps until Thursday's event.

Over at Sony's PlayStation Blog they noted that "There are few things as exciting as the launch of a new console. While this road to launch has been a bit…different, we are as thrilled as ever to bring you with us on this journey to redefine the future of videogames.

We’ve shared technical specifications and shown you the new DualSense wireless controller. But what is a launch without games?

That’s why I’m excited to share that we will soon give you a first look at the games you’ll be playing after PlayStation 5 launches this holiday. The games coming to PS5 represent the best in the industry from innovative studios that span the globe. Studios, both larger and smaller, those newer and those more established, all have been hard at work developing games that will showcase the potential of the hardware.

This digital showcase will run for a bit more than an hour and, for the first time, we will all be together virtually experiencing the excitement together."

On another note, one of the top games coming to Playstation 4 and 5 is "The Last of Us" Part II. Beyond it being a great game, the series will also be coming to HBO as a limited series. It was announced yesterday that Johan Renck and Craig Mazin are reuniting on HBO’s planned series adaptation of the hit video game “The Last of Us.”

Media company Variety has confirmed that Renck has signed on to direct the pilot of the series in addition to executive producing. Mazin is co-writing and executive producing the series along with the game’s writer and executive director, Neil Druckman. Renck previously directed all five episodes of "Chernobyl," which Mazin created. Chernobyl won a Golden Globes award and 3 Emmys.

“The Last of Us,” a Playstation game developed by game studio Naughty Dog, takes place twenty years after modern civilization has been destroyed.

If you weren't aware that "The Last of US" part II was coming out next Friday, June 19th, you could catch up on the story line from a series of videos that Sony has put together on their PS5 blog here.

On May 15, Patently Apple posted a report titled "The Next-Gen Unreal Engine 5 will deliver actual game-play as good as video segments for Consoles, iOS & Mac in 2021." While parts of the engine may be used in Q4 2020 games, the full engine and games using it may not surface until late 2021 or 2022. The new gaming consoles will be able to work with this new engine when it arrives. Too bad the timing is off, as the Unreal Engine 5 is a real leap in graphics that gamers have been dreaming of for years.
