There has been a critical shortage of supply globally for ventilators needed in the treatment of severe cases of COVID-19. Foxconn’s collaboration with Medtronic covers design and development of the devices. Production will start within the next four to six weeks, Ishrak said, without quantifying a volume. Below is the CNBC video interview. The news on Foxconn begins at around the 2:10 mark.

At the end of March Medtronic posted a press release titled "Medtronic Shares Ventilation Design Specifications to Accelerate Efforts to Increase Global Ventilator Production." The press release stated in-part that Medtronic was "publicly sharing the design specifications for the Puritan Bennett 560 (PB 560) to enable participants across industries to evaluate options for rapid ventilator manufacturing to help doctors and patients dealing with COVID-19."

Medtronic also published more information earlier this month in a notice titled "Our Ventilator Specifications. Your Ingenuity."
