Today's Rumors Claim that Apple signed a deal with TSMC for 5nm CPUs & 6 iPhones due in 2020 with some including AirPods
To kick off 2020, three new rumors have surfaced from Apple's supply chain in Taiwan. The first covers Apple signing a deal with TSMC for 5nm processors and more.
A year ago Patently Apple posted a report titled "Apple is already engaged with TSMC's 5nm Processor Team to Prepare for a 5nm iPhone in 2020," followed by a report in July 2019 titled "Apple likely to use 5nm Processors in their Top Tier 2020 iPhones as TSMC reveals Volume Production will start in Q1 2020."
In the first rumor, Digitimes reports that "As US leading chipmakers and system vendors are gearing up to commercialize their mmWave technologies, TSMC reportedly has landed a big order from Apple for processing handset antenna modules with its InFO_AiP (antenna in package) technology."
In the second rumor, Digitimes reports on the latest supply chain rumor that "Apple is likely to launch as many as six iPhone devices in 2020 - four OLED models and two with LCDs. Rumors in 2019 pointed to Apple releasing 5 iPhone models in 2020.
In the third rumor, a new supply chain report today revisits the 2019 rumor that Apple may decide to include AirPods with 2020 iPhones. The report noted that "Apple plans to bundle the iPhone 12 with AirPods, intending to change the wired headset that comes with the box to AirPods products. If true, it will greatly increase the operation of the AirPods supply chain.
While the rumor didn't clarify, it's more than likely free AirPods will be limited to certain high-end 2020 iPhone models to match similar offerings from competitors Samsung and Huawei.
