A Prediction by Apple Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in September takes a twist in Timeline for the arrival of Apple's first Mini LED Displays
At the end of September, Patently Apple posted a report titled "Rumor Claims that Apple will Shift to Mini-LED displays for High-end iPad Pro and MacBooks by 2021." That was a rumor generated by Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst at TF International Securities. Mini LED displays could provide 10,000 LEDs compared to 576 LEDs in backlight in Apple's Pro Display XDR.
Kuo's timeline has now changed. Kuo now predicts that Apple will bring mini LED to 4-6 products over time, but that the switch over will start with the 12.9-inch iPad Pro in Q3 2020. Kuo says that this iPad Pro model will feature the mini LED display as well as a more powerful A14X processor.
Secondarily, Kuo predicts that Apple will release an updated model of the 16-inch MacBook Pro in Q4 2020 that will also switch to mini LED technology.
While Apple fans will look forward to these rumors coming to life, some of Kuo's predictions have been misses at times. With that said, we can hope that this current rumor update comes to market as predicted and that the added brightness won't burn our eyes out.
