Apple Won 52 Patents Today covering a Futuristic Headset Designed for Passengers in an Autonomous Vehicle & more

1 X Cover vr headset FOR VEHICLES

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office granted Apple 52 newly granted patents today. In our final granted report of the day we cover a major patent relating to a VR headset specifically designed for future autonomous vehicles. While your vehicle is driving you to work or school, Apple envisions passengers relaxing and watching TV, enjoying VR experiences like sitting by a waterfall, playing a game or participating in a video conference that you're late to. Another patent that we briefly cover appears to be an invention relating to strengthening the floor of a vehicle that supports multiple batteries. This could relate to an electric vehicle and not an autonomous vehicle. We wrap up this week's granted patent report with our traditional listing of the remaining granted patents that were issued to Apple today.

Augmented Virtual Display

Apple was granted a patent today covering an augmented virtual display. Apple notes that "embodiments of the VR system as described herein may be implemented in autonomous or "self-driving" vehicles where all occupants are passengers." It's one of Apple's futuristic visions for the use of a future headset designed to entertain those in an autonomous vehicle that is driving them to their destination. It also could allow executives to get work done or participate in a video conference.

Apple's patent FIG 9 below illustrates an example of an immersive VR experience may be used to enhance productivity while riding in vehicles. For example, two or more people may hold a meeting as avatars around a table in a virtual environment.

Vehicle Floor and Subassemblies

The U.S. Patent Office granted Apple patent 10,479,413 that relates to a floor assembly for passenger vehicles.

Apple notes that "Passenger vehicles for roadways, such as cars, trucks, or other automobiles, include floor structures. It would be advantageous to provide such a floor structure that distributes forces from outboard impacts and/or minimizes a height thereof to maximize space for other uses (e.g., battery storage)." The word "autonomous" is found nowhere in the patent which could mean this invention relates to floor structures supporting batteries for an electric vehicle.
