Apple Files Figurative Trademarks for 'Remote' and 'Apple News+'

Apple has filed for two distinct figurative trademarks in Hong Kong, China and the United States for 'Remote' and 'Apple News+.'

Apple filed for this figurative trademark in Hong Kong specifically under International Class 09 covering the following:

 

"Downloadable computer software for controlling the operations of televisions, video monitors, set top boxes, audio, video, and media players and recorders, game players, entertainment systems, home theatre systems, home automation hubs, and consumer electronic devices and displays; downloadable computer software for voice command and recognition, for speech-to-text conversion, for personal information management, and for accessing, browsing, and searching online databases, audio, video, and multimedia content, games, software applications, software application marketplaces, program listings and guides, and video on demand."

 

Trademark classes are important because the trademark registration will only protect Apple's trademark(s) in the classes that have been identified in their application.

 

The Hong Kong Patent Office lists the trademark under number 305008220 and also under device code 26.4.10. The priority filing was made in Liechtenstein in Q1 2019.

 

Apple Files for Figurative 'Apple News+' Trademark

Apple filed two figurative trademarks for the same 'Apple News+' with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office which filed them under numbers 88541009 and 88541065.

 

Apple filed their '1009 trademark filing under International Class 035 covering the following:

 

"Retail store services in the field of books, magazines, periodicals, newsletters, journals and other publications on a wide range of topics of general interest, provided via the Internet and other computer, electronic and communications networks; subscription services, namely, providing subscriptions to text, data, image, audio, video, and multimedia content, provided via the Internet and other electronic and communications networks; providing downloadable pre-recorded text, data, image, audio, video, and multimedia content for a fee or pre-paid subscription, via the Internet and other electronic and communications networks."

 

Apple filed their '1065 trademark filing under International Classes 41 and 42.

 

Class 41: "Providing a website for the uploading, storing, sharing, viewing and posting of images, audio, videos, online journals, blogs, podcasts, and multimedia content; publication of books, periodicals, newspapers, newsletters, manuals, blogs, journals, and other publications; providing websites and computer applications featuring books, periodicals, newspapers, newsletters, manuals, blogs, journals, and other publications."

 

Class 42: "Providing online non-downloadable software for accessing, searching, browsing, displaying, reading, recommending, sharing, posting in social media, organizing, annotating, and archiving content from newspapers, periodicals, blogs, and websites, news, sports, weather, commentary, and other information, and other text, data, graphics, images, audio, video, and multimedia content; providing an Internet portal allowing users to preview and download electronic books, publications, and other documents; providing search engines for obtaining data via the internet and other electronic communications networks; providing online non-downloadable application development software; technical support and consultation services for developing computer applications."

 

Apple notes that their priority filing was made in Liechtenstein under application number 2019-077, filed 01/29/2019.
