Last week Patently Apple posted a report titled "Due to Trade Tensions between U.S. and China, Pegatron to begin Production of MacBooks and iPads in Indonesia."

Earlier today Indonesian deputy industry minister Warsito Ignatius told Reuters that Taiwan electronics company Pegatron has signed a letter of intent stating it intends to invest 10 trillion to 15 trillion rupiah (US$695 million to $1 billion) in an Indonesian factory to produce chips for Apple smartphones.  

Pegatron plans to produce the chips in partnership with Indonesian electronics company PT Sat Nusapersada who may also produce MacBook components. Reuters

The thin on details Reuters report didn't specify which kind of chips for the iPhone Pegatron would be involved with.

UPDATE MAY 30TH: Digitimes, the source of the original report, now reports: "Commenting on speculation that Pegatron's Batam plant may also make notebooks, smartphones and tablets, Tung said there are no clear plans for those at the moment. Amid the ongoing US-China trade dispute, Tung said Pegatron is currently evaluating more than 10 locations for enhancing its global deployments, and it may expand its facilities in the Czech Republic and Mexico to reduce the pressure on its operations in Asia.
