Apple Fine-Tunes Head-Mounted Display Invention with an Emphasis on a Catadioptric Optical System & more

1 cover VR Glasses

Today the US Patent & Trademark Office published a continuation patent from Apple that relates to optical systems and, more particularly, to optical systems for head-mounted displays. Today's patent is not a new invention application but rather a continuation patent wherein Apple is updating and/or adding specific technology, features and/or methods to their invention that they want to legally protect.

Apple's patent claims found in their February 2019 granted patent 10,203,489 emphasized linear and reflective polarizers.  In today's continuation patent Apple emphasizes or adds emphasis in their patent claims on a catadioptric optical system; cylindrical surfaces; and a polarizer that is thermoformed to the aspherical shape of the fourth surface.
