Late last week Patently Apple posted a report titled "The Rumor of Apple moving to Design its own Modem Chips for Future Devices Appears to be gaining Momentum." The report noted that Apple had reportedly moved its modem chip engineering effort into its in-house hardware technology group and away from its supply chain unit, a sign Apple is looking to develop a key component of its iPhones after years of buying it from outside suppliers.

Today Patently Apple discovered that Apple filed for a new trademark with the Benelux Office for Intellectual Property (BOIP) in The Hague, Netherlands on February 3rd. The application is specifically for "Apple Bald Eagle 5G."

The trademark filing found in "The Benelux Office" database is presented in part below.  The modem chip is characterized by the brand name and logo of the company, the American flag and a bald eagle logo printed on it.

2 Apple Figurative Trademark

If I didn't see the associated trademark filing from the Benelux Office for Intellectual Property this morning, as shown in part below, I'd be skeptical because the eagle is like a cartoon, something that seems odd for Apple.

The filing shows that Apple filed their trademark under Class 38 covering: "Services de réseaux de télécommunications mobiles," which translates from French: "Mobile telecommunications network services."
