Apple Granted 46 Patents Today Covering Speakers with Surround Geometry for Improved Pistonic Motion and more
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office officially published a series of 46 newly granted patents for Apple Inc. today. In this particular report we cover Apple's patent relating to speakers with surround geometry for improved pistonic motion. Apple was also oddly granted a design patent for Magic Mouse, not Magic Mouse 2. We wrap up this week's granted patent report with our traditional listing of the remaining granted patents that were issued to Apple today.
Granted Patent: Audio Speaker Surround Geometry for Improved Pistonic Motion
Apple's newly granted patent covers their invention relating to audio speakers having a suspension system including a surround to support a diaphragm within a frame and to reduce non-pistonic motion of the diaphragm at several resonant frequencies.
If you're an absolute audio fan or engineer you may want to delve deeper into Apple's granted patent 10,129,652 here. It's definitely not an easy read. Apple's granted patent was originally filed in Q2 2015 and published today by the US Patent and Trademark Office.
Oddly Apple Wins a Design Patent for an Older Version of Magic Mouse
You would think by now Apple would have been granted a patent for the Magic Mouse 2. However the under panel noted in the patent figure below is clearly not supporting lightning for charging.
So it's odd that they received a design patent for the older design considering that they were granted a patent for this in 2015. Unless Apple or USPTO made a mistake entering the wrong patent images, it's a mystery as to why there's a second granted design patent for the same mouse.
Although the Magic Mouse 2 may one day win a design patent, it's still currently viewed as not being one of Apple's smarter designs with charging at the bottom of the mouse rendering it unusable until it's recharged.
