If you were Praying for a 10nm i7 Core MacBook Pro just around the Corner, Forget about it
At the JP Morgan 46th Annual Technology Conference, Dr. Murthy Renduchintala, group president of the Technology, Systems Architecture & Client Group and chief engineering officer at Intel Corporation, spoke at some length about the problems Intel has run into with its 10nm ramp, the amount of headroom in 14nm, and the company's overall plans for the future.
One of the key Questions J.P. Morgan asked Dr. Renduchintala related to the delay in their 10nm processors.
Cutting to the chase, Intel's Dr. Renduchintala stated that he was "comfortable with the 14-nanometer roadmap that will give us leadership products in the next 12 to 18 months, as we seek to optimize the cost structure and yields of our 10-nanometer portfolio.
While Intel will continue to struggle to get 10nm to market in 2019, AMD will be pushing their Zen-2 7nm processor H1 2019.
In ExtremeTech's report on this matter closed by noting that "Intel's slip on 10nm is significant. It's the first time in the last two decades, at least, that the company has taken so long to make a node transition. It's absolutely opened up a bit more opportunity for AMD than might otherwise exist."
The report added that "it's also a straightforward issue related to Intel's decision to aggressively push for higher transistor densities at 10nm, and the use of EUV at lower process nodes should help prevent the problem from occurring again."

While there was a report posted yesterday claiming that Intel was about to release an i3 Core 10nm processor for a Lenovo notebook, Intel made it very clear that it was in limited quantity. In other words they're testing 10nm. The interview with Intel's Dr. Renduchintala was focused on volume production of 10nm processors and that's still 12-18 months out.
