Apple's Supply Chain points to Apple releasing new iPads in Q2 and Q4 while Choosing LG for new MacBook Air Displays
A non-descriptive rumor about a MacBook Air refresh surfaced earlier this month from KGI claiming its to debut in Q2. Today the rumor continues from a second source stating that the "price tag is expected to be about the same level as that of the existing MacBook Air or slightly higher," which is contrary to KGI's prediction of it launching at a lower price. The difference in price estimates seems to be based on Apple switching display sources.
A Digitimes report published today notes that while Apple originally looked to reduce cost by seeking panel supply for the new MacBook from a China-based maker, Apple finally decided to source the panels from Korea-based LG Display due to issues at the China supplier.
LG Display will begin supplying the panel in April with the new MacBook scheduled to enter mass production at the end of May or the beginning of June.
As for the assembly, Quanta Computer obtains 70% of the orders and Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) 30%.
In other supply chain news it's noted that Apple is to release a new inexpensive 9.7" iPad in Q2 and a new iPad Pro in the second half of the year.
