Apple acquired Israeli based PrimeSense back in July 2013. Patently Apple posted a report on some of the patents that Apple was gaining by the PrimeSense acquisition that touched on revolutionizing television, virtual reality, a VR/AR headset, technology related to face recognition (that led to Face ID) and gaze based display controls. The latter was a key component in a new Apple patent that surfaced in Europe last week covering a new specialized 8K micro-display for a heads-up display that utilizes gaze controls.

Apple's Israeli based PrimeSense team played a large role in the development of the TrueDepth camera for iPhone X and next month the team leader, Eitan Hirsh will be delivering a session at the Israeli IMVC2018 tech conference on March 6th. IMVC is a unique opportunity for companies from diverse industrial fields to meet with research groups of academic institutions heading machine vision research in Israel.

The session is titled "Depth Sensing @ Apple: TrueDepth Camera. The session will provide an overview on Apple's iPhone X TrueDepth camera system, its design and capabilities. Hirsh and team will also describe algorithmic layers which are used in some of the features it enables, and describe how it can be used by developers.

Eitan Hirsh Bio

Eitan Hirsh leads a team focused on depth sensing research and development at Apple, helping to bring to life new features and technologies, such as the TrueDepth camera in iPhone X. Eitan came to Apple in 2013 with more than 15 years in various technology development, innovation and management roles at PrimeSense, modu and IDF. He holds an M.Sc in Computer Science from Tel Aviv University (2007) and a B.A in Computer Science from the Technion (2001).
