Samsung describes their Foldable Smartphone as an Impeccable Product that will dominate the Market in the Long Run

Yesterday Patently Apple posted a report titled "Rumor 101 Claims that Samsung has developed a firm Schedule to begin manufacturing a Super-Premium Foldable Smartphone." Today a new report elaborates on what Samsung's CEO, mobile division, said about the foldable smartphone and more.

In a news conference at CES 2018, Samsung's mobile division CEO Koh Dong-jin confirmed, as expected, that their new Galaxy S9 will be introduced at the Mobile World Congress trade show in Barcelona 2018 which kick-starts on February 26. Samsung usually holds a special Galaxy Smartphone event the day before the trade show kicks off in New York. He hinted that the new S9 is likely to hit the market in late February.

When asked about the timing of their rumored foldable smartphone, Koh stated that "We are working hard on the foldable phone. We are preparing for an impeccable product that will dominate the market in the long run.

Samsung appears to be relying on the history of their first phablets having a huge lead over Apple who was stuck on smaller screens that could be controlled with one hand and a user's thumb.

Apple missed the initial shift to Phablets and Schiller actually mocked the phablet in a keynote in 2012. It was embarrassing to see Schiller thinking that he and Apple had outsmarted Samsung because they understood the power of the thumb.

In describing Apple's new iPhone 5, Phil Schiller stated that "It is really easy to make a new product that's bigger. Everyone does that. The challenge is to make it better and smaller.

That was then, and history is unlikely to repeat itself. Apple already has foldable iPhone patents on record along with a few other types of smartphones such as a scrollable design and beyond to ensure they're not caught flatfooted again.

So Samsung's belief that their future foldable smartphone will allow them to dominate the market in the long run, is just marketing hyperbole.

On another front, Samsung critics pointed out at the news conference that Bixby failed to clearly understand users' voice commands or respond to their questions. They also quoted a report by Strategy Analytics who reduced Bixby's market share potential to 5.4 percent by 2022 while its Chinese and US rivals will see theirs rise.

Koh replied by saying that "We will apply Bixby to all of our new smart devices by 2020. Given Samsung sells around 500 million units of devices every year, Bixby can be much smarter in the future based on machine learning technologies."

Koh added that "While most AI-powered voice recognition technologies are developed by non-hardware firms and try to be personal assistants, Bixby is more focused on integrating with devices," and noted that Samsung is far ahead in devices -- smartphones, digital devises and appliances.

Samsung also tried to steal another of Apple's famous lines during the news conference by stating that "Samsung is the only company that has both hardware and software capabilities."
