In October Patently Apple posted two reports (one and two) about Google's hardware event where they Pushed all thing AI and mocked Apple wherever and whenever they could. Yet despite their confidence they make everything better than Apple, CNBC noted that some of Google's new hardware was a huge disappointment in 2017. Now we're learning that Google wants to emulate Apple even further by making their own chips to power their AI above the Android crowd and yet ironically they've hired an Apple chip engineer to get it right.

According to a Silicon Valley Business Journal report posted late yesterday "Google has hired Apple chip designer John Bruno as it advances toward designing its own chipsets for consumer devices.

Bruno has worked on iPhone chips since 2012, according to The Information, which first reported the move. While at Apple, Bruno founded and managed the silicon competitive analysis group, which kept Apple out front of its competitors in regards to chip performance.

Bruno's exit comes shortly after a number of other chip engineers deserted both Apple and one of its main chip suppliers, San Diego-based Qualcomm, for Google in the last year. Apple defectors include Manu Gulati, Wonjae Choi and Tayo Fadelu. Engineers departing Qualcomm for Google include Mainak Biswas, Vinod Chamarty and Shamik Ganguly.

Before coming to Apple, Bruno worked as chief engineer at Sunnyvale-based Advanced Micro Devices and led chip architecture at ATI Technologies.
