Apple May Introduce a Higher than Expected LCD Display Size for their Second Tier iPhone Plus Model in 2018
Way back in August Patently Apple posted a supply chain report titled "Apple Rumored to be introducing 5.85" and 6.46" OLED iPhone 9 Models next year with a possible new Third Model." The report also hinted that there could be a third OLED model in 2018 but until supply can keep up with demand, the third model will remain a big maybe.
According to a few reports floating around today, KGI Securities sent out a research note claiming that the third mystery iPhone model that we pointed to in August may turn out to be a 6.1" iPhone with an LCD display.
We're led to believe that this new 6.1" display model is a "third model" in Apple's premium smartphone tier whereas it could simply be the new Plus model screen size for Apple's second tier of iPhones replacing the 5.5" size.
This year's anniversary iPhone X was a single sized special edition display model. Next year's high-end, whatever they decide to number or call it, will likely have the two OLED displays sizes of 5.8" and 6.46" that were first forecast in August.
In the second tier of iPhones, the Plus model is likely to be upgraded to the rumored 6.1" LCD to be more competitive against their Chinese competitors Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi and Huawei. Of course it's a rumor, so only time will tell how if it pans out in any way shape or form.
