Singapore Land Transit will begin Testing Apple Pay in Q1 2018
It was reported earlier this month by Channel NewsAsia that commuters in Singapore would soon be able to use their mobile phones to pay for public transport as part of a trial by the Land Transport Authority (LTA), according to a news release.
As part of LTA's account-based ticketing (ABT) pilot with Mastercard, the authority said it would trial the use of mobile payment methods such as Android Pay, Apple Pay and Samsung Pay for public transport systems from the first quarter of 2018.
Almost a year ago Patently Apple posted a report titled "Apple's CEO is the First Customer to use Apple Pay to Ride Japan's famous Yamanote Transit Line." The Yamanote Line is a railway loop line in Tokyo, Japan and is one of Tokyo's busiest and most important lines. This was Apple's first big push into transit systems using Apple Pay and the expansion into Singapore is another positive development.
