In December Patently Apple posted a report titled "Apple has held Talks with SoftBank to Invest up to One Billion Dollars in their new Technology 'Vision Fund'" Then last week we posted a report titled "Foxconn to make 'Capital Intensive' Investment in the U.S. that will be revealed at a Special Event this Summer." It appears that Apple may indeed be a part of what will be announced from Softbank and Foxconn. This afternoon CNBC's Mad Money host Jim Cramer scored an exclusive with Apple's CEO. During the interview Tim Cook said that his company will start a $1 billion fund to promote advanced manufacturing jobs in the United States" Is it the same $1 billion fund we reported on back in December?

Cook told Cramer that "We're announcing it today. So you're the first person I'm telling. Well, not the first person because we've talked to a company that we're going to invest in already," he said, adding that Apple will announce the first investment later in May.

The fund comes as President Donald Trump has made bringing back manufacturing jobs into a big part of its agenda, and it fits into Apple's larger effort to create jobs across its spectrum, from its own employees to app developers to its suppliers.

As advanced manufacturing jobs are in high demand in the U.S., the sector was already high on Apple's list of priorities, and Cook hopes the investment will spur even more job creation.

"By doing that, we can be the ripple in the pond. Because if we can create many manufacturing jobs around, those manufacturing jobs create more jobs around them because you have a service industry that builds up around them," the CEO said.
