1A 88 X APPLE AIRPODS PATENT

It's true, there's some "Frustration and Anger over the AirPods Delay," but really only because it will provide users with all new features and capabilities they want and for gift giving, it would have been a no brainer for anyone you love who owns a new iPhone. As Apple states, AirPods will forever change the way you use headphones. Whenever you pull your AirPods out of the charging case, they instantly turn on and connect to your iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, or Mac. Audio automatically plays as soon as you put them in your ears and pauses when you take them out. To adjust the volume, change the song, make a call, or even get directions, just double-tap to activate Siri.

Driven by the custom Apple W1 chip, AirPods use optical sensors and a motion accelerometer to detect when they're in your ears. Whether you're using both AirPods or just one, the W1 chip automatically routes the audio and engages the microphone. And when you're on a call or talking to Siri, an additional accelerometer works with beamforming microphones to filter out background noise and focus on the sound of your voice. Because the ultralow-power W1 chip manages battery life so well, AirPods deliver an industry-leading 5 hours of listening time on one charge. And they're made to keep up with you, thanks to a charging case that holds multiple additional charges for more than 24 hours of listening time. Need a quick charge? Just 15 minutes in the case gives you 3 hours of listening time.

You could learn more about Apple's AirPods on Apple's web page here, in the video below are rummage through their first patent to see if there's some hidden revelation or just because you want to see what was on the minds of Apple's engineers when they were inventing these little gems..

In Apple's video, Jony Ive at one point notes that "when you're speaking, voice accelerometers recognize the vibration and source of your voice. Then, working with a pair of beamforming Microphones, reduce external noise."

Beamforming isn't mentioned in either of Apple's patent applications on their AirPods. For that aspect of their invention, you'll have to review a patent that was granted to Apple last Tuesday titled "Detecting the positions of earbuds and use of these positions for selecting the optimum microphones in a headset." You could review that patent here. Even though that patent relates to Apple's wired EarPods, the beamforming technology discussed in that patent also applies to Apple's AirPods.

2AF 88 AIRPODS PATENT #1

Apple's patent FIG. 1A illustrates an example wireless ear bud case; FIG. 1B illustrates an example wireless ear bud that can communicatively couple with another wireless ear bud to form a pair of untethered, wireless ear buds according to some embodiments of the present invention.

Apple's patent FIG. 1B of their second AirPods patent we see an example system having two coupled wearable wireless ear buds paired with one or more companion communication devices. The patent graphic is juxtaposed to an Apple AirPods image portraying the same thing on Apple's AirPods web page.

3af 88 Apple AirPods patent #2 - fig 1b

Apple's patent FIG. 1B illustrates an example system having two coupled wearable wireless ear buds paired with one or more companion communication devices. The graphic is juxtaposed to Apple's AirPods web page graphic communicating the same thing.

Apple's patent FIGS. 3A-3N below illustrate examples of changes to a wearing status of wireless ear buds paired with companion communication devices resulting in changing the behavior of the companion communication devices according to some embodiments of the present technology.

4AF 88 AIRPOD SCENARIOS

Apple notes in FIG. 3K, that an iPhone can determine to pause the playback of music/audio that could apply to CarPlay (wireless vehicle system) as well.

To review the AirPods invention in its entirety, review Apple's second patent application 20160357510 that was filed in June 2016. Apple's two patent filings for their AirPods are now patents fulfilled.
